Always asking for permission before giving a Reiki healing is imperative! When a new client arrives for a Reiki healing, sometimes they have not received a Reiki treatment before. It’s important to explain what Reiki is, how it works, and what they can expect during their Reiki session.
Asking permission first is vital
Even if a client has had Reiki before from another Reiki practitioner, not everyone treats the same way. It’s always a good idea to explain the Reiki session to your client, and check in with them to make sure they are ok to receive Reiki from you. Asking permission is vital, as entering someone’s energy field is one of the most sacred and intimate things you can do!
Everyone has a choice
If you are offering Reiki treatments to your friends and family for free, it is still imperative you ask their permission first. Giving Reiki is a big responsibility! Even though you might know your partner and kids intimately for example, we never really know what is going through someone’s mind. Everyone needs to be given the choice whether to receive Reiki in that moment, or not.
Crossing energetic boundaries
I remember talking to someone who had done a Reiki course with someone else. She told a story of giving her husband Reiki when he slept because he snored! Even though it seems light-hearted and he was her husband, it is still crossing an energetic boundary (unless he gave her permission before he fell asleep of course!). Always ensure you ask permission first, every time you give Reiki to anyone.
Giving Reiki to children
If you are giving Reiki to a child, and you’re their guardian, it’s still important to ask your child if they would like to receive Reiki. You could explain what Reiki is, and ask them if they would like to try a little Reiki healing for 5 minutes or so. Then ask your child how they felt afterwards. You might be surprised by what they feel and experience! If you are giving Reiki to a child that is not yours, it’s important you ask their guardian or parent permission first. It is also still wise to ask the child too, of course!
Distant Reiki healing
Whenever you give a Distant Reiki healing, it’s still important that you ask the recipient if they would like to receive Reiki. You need to receive positive confirmation that they would be happy to receive Reiki before beginning your Reiki treatment. If you don’t receive confirmation, or the recipient is not communicating with you for any reason, do not assume they have given you permission.
Giving Reiki to animals, plants, or anything else
If you like to give Reiki to animals, plants, or anything else, you can still ask for permission first! Just listen very carefully to hear or feel the answer! You might feel a certain lightness or perhaps a heaviness. You might lean to one direction, or the other. The animal might walk or run away, or it might stay in your lap or on the couch. By listening and tuning in to your animal, plant or anything else, you will start to become more tuned in. You’ll eventually feel more and more comfortable asking for permission, and listening for the answer.
