My clients often ask me, ‘so how DOES Reiki work’? It’s a great question! Reiki is energy, and energy is not exactly tangible, which makes it a little tricky to understand.
Reiki is energy
The basic premise of Reiki is that everything is made up of energy; our physical body, our thoughts, our emotions, even situations have an energy about them. When our energy is flowing smoothly, we feel good! We are ‘in-flow’ and standing in alignment with our true nature. However, when energy is blocked, stagnant, or overactive, we are ‘out of flow’, and basically on struggle street.
How does Reiki work?
In the most simple terms, Reiki works in two ways. The first is by charging up our being, very much like charging up our phone! We have all experienced times where we feel depleted, and in a low energetic state. We might feel tired and lethargic, lacking in motivation and focus, and we might experience depression, sadness, grief or overwhelm. Reiki works by plugging us into Source energy (universal life force energy) to replenish our depleted supplies. After Reiki, we feel usually lighter and more grounded. Reiki can lift our mood, clear brain fog, help us sleep, and give us a general energetic boost!
Reiki dissolves energy blockages
The second way Reiki works is by dissolving energy ‘blockages’. As we go through life, sometimes we will have a strong emotional reaction to something that has happened. When this occurs, we can’t always process all our emotions at once, so we repress them or avoid feeling them because it’s too painful or overwhelming. When that happens, our emotions, or ‘energy-in-motion’ gets stored in our body so we can process them later on. The problem is, we don’t always do this because it’s too painful! However, when we hold onto emotions for a long time, they create imbalances in our energy, then manifest in many detrimental ways.
Emotional release through Reiki
Reiki works by not only charging us up, but also by dissolving these emotional or energetic blockages that we have stored in our body. This is why sometimes during or after a Reiki session, you might feel emotional, tired, cranky or super energetic! This is the result of emotions finally being released from your body, and your body rebalancing. It is a good thing, even though it might not feel great at the time!
