Make Yourself Happy
How to make yourself happy is one of the most important things to learn in life. Not just for your own wellbeing and mental health, but for your clients, business, family and friends too. If you are feeling sad, depressed, anxious, worried or stressed, these negative emotions drain your energy and lower your vibration. You will then send out low vibrational energy to the world around you, and guess what? You’ll attract the same back in return.
Happiness is a feeling
Happiness is a feeling, and all feelings and emotions fluctuate, happiness included. One moment we might feel good and positive, the next we might feel sad and lonely. Some fluctuations in emotions are perfectly normal and human. We’re not meant to feel the same, every moment of the day. However, when we find ourselves sitting in a depressive, sad, anxious or stressed state on a regular basis, this is problematic. If our mindset and energy gets used to this state, our baseline of how we feel can drop to that lower level. We essentially then form a habit of coming back to a familiar sense of low energy.
Take charge of your emotions
It is so easy to blame how you feel on things and people outside of you. You might feel stressed and anxious because of something your partner said. You might feel depressed because you feel stuck and don’t know what to do. Or you might get angry due to things just not going the way you wanted or hoped. It’s important to honour your emotions, and your feelings are valid. However, sitting in your negative emotions for too long is not helpful. Learning how to shift your energy and raise your vibration back up is imperative to getting your mindset, mood and life back on track again.
Happiness Table
One tool I like to use is called the ‘Happiness Table’. You might imagine a tabletop with legs underneath. The tabletop is your happiness, and the legs underneath are the things that bring you joy. The more things you have in your life that bring you joy, the more legs under your table. If you have 6 legs under your table that bring you joy, the less likely you are to crash into depression if one leg breaks. However, if you only have one or two legs under your table, you put more weight onto those few things, and if one breaks, you are more vulnerable to becoming sad, depressed, anxious, and overwhelmed.
What brings you joy?
Take the time to draw a table with 6 legs underneath. Think about the things that bring you joy in life, and write them on the legs of your table. Some of the things that bring me joy for example are my friends and family, my work, spirituality and self-Reiki, spending time in nature, exercising/gym, and the beach. Work out what feels good for you. If you struggle to think of things that bring you joy, you might need to spend some time exploring new things and noticing what brings a smile to your face. The more things that bring you joy and the more legs under your table, the more sturdy your emotional state will be.
What are you focusing on?
Sometimes if we’re feeling down, we forget what brings us joy. We’re too busy focusing on all the things that are going wrong, or on our negative emotions. When we feel down, everything seems worse. In addition, what we focus on is what we get, to the exclusion of everything else. Meaning, if we continually focus on the things that are going wrong or our negative feelings, we block out the things that bring us joy, and amplify the things that cause us to suffer.
You are responsible for your own happiness
It can be helpful in those moments to go back to your Happiness Table, and remind yourself of the things that bring a smile to your face. Something I remind myself also is that no-one else is responsible for my happiness, other than me. It’s my job to pull myself out of the funk, raise my energy and vibration, and focus on things that light me up.
Seek support when needed
Of course, this can seem easier said than done at times. When you’ve been sitting in depression or feeling completely stuck for a long time, it can be very difficult to see a way out. In these moments, it’s important to seek support. Book in for a Reiki healing, a Reiki + Coaching session, or even therapy. In my experience, having someone to talk to who can hold space and really listen is vital. Even better to have someone who can listen to you, shed some light on your experience that you may not be able to see yourself, and then clear your energy with Reik!
Reiki raises your vibration
Personally I find self-Reiki and meditation an invaluable tool, and I also have a Reiki healer that I see on a regular basis too. It’s comforting to have someone else hold space for me, so I can completely relax and switch off. If this is something you are seeking, you can read more about Reiki healing and book in here. After I have a Reiki healing, I feel so much lighter and happier! Often I’ll find myself singing or dancing in the kitchen for no apparent reason. After my energy has been cleared, I’m back to my usual happy self again!
