Learn meditation and Reiki in my upcoming Reiki Level 1 course (Shoden)! Mikau Usui, founder of Reiki, taught meditation to his students. This was to help them open their hearts, and strengthen their connection to energy.
What is meditation?
Meditation is a way of bringing about a greater awareness of one’s inner Self. Meditation is not necessarily about stopping the flow of your thoughts or switching off your mind. Rather, meditation teaches us to stay calm, and let our thoughts flow by without judgement. When we create space and quiet time for ourselves, we start to feel more relaxed. Meditating also helps us to be more grounded, and more connected to our higher Self.
What is the difference between praying and meditating?
It is said that prayer is talking to the divine, while meditation is listening. When we take the time to listen and stay open without judgement, we allow insight and inspiration to flow. We also start to feel a deeper connection with the greater Universe.
How does meditation help with Reiki?
Mikau Usui taught a number of different meditations to his students. Meditating helps to clear our mind, so we can feel more connected to Reiki energy. If we are stuck in our thinking mind, it is often much harder to tap into our feeling body, which is what we need when practicing Reiki.
Gassho meditation
One such meditation is called ‘Gassho’, which means ‘two hands coming together’. Gassho meditation involves bringing your hands together in prayer position at the heart space. We can then begin to quieten the mind, and feel into the energy that is flowing through our hands. The more we practice meditating, the more easily we can connect to this innate healing energy.
