Reiki healing is a big responsibility, and one that should not be taken lightly. As Reiki healers, our clients are trusting us to be authentic, genuine, respectful and honest with both our own energy and theirs as well. It is an honour and a gift to be able to practice Reiki on others, and one that we need to treat as such.
Respect your client
You will have many different clients come to you for a Reiki healing. Each of them will come with their own set of fears, beliefs, mindsets, values and energy. When practicing Reiki, it is important to respect your client where they are at. Always ask for permission to touch your client (for the purposes of Reiki) before you start. It is also good to explain what the session will involve and what to expect, and make sure they’re comfortable with your space and energy.
Reiki healers are not medical professionals
As Reiki healers, we are not ‘curing’ anyone, nor are we ‘fixing’ clients’ problems. We are simply channels for Reiki energy to flow through. Reiki helps rebalance our client’s energy and helps to bring them back into harmony once more. Each client will also have different reasons for coming to Reiki, and it is important we don’t overstep our boundaries. We are not medical professionals, and as such we do not medically diagnose anyone’s symptoms. However, through the Reiki healing, you might notice areas of the body that might need more Reiki. It is fine for you to share these sensations or insights with your client.
Intuitive messages during Reiki
Sometimes you might receive information in the form of a psychic download or intuitive message, and that can be both exciting and nerve-wracking too! Psychic downloads or insights are traditionally not part of Reiki, however we do know that Reiki does enhance your intuition and psychic abilities greatly. That doesn’t always mean that your client wants to hear these insights though! It is always good to check with your client about their beliefs and what they are willing to receive before you start the session. Otherwise, you might be overstepping their personal boundaries about what they are willing to talk about or not.
Reiki requires trust
Both channeling energy, and receiving an energy healing, requires trust on both parties. Your client is trusting you to have genuine intentions in your Reiki healing. They are coming to you because they’re in need of healing in some form, and they can often be in a vulnerable or sensitive state. As a Reiki healer, we are entrusted with the gift of sharing Reiki with the utmost care and authenticity. If you as the Reiki healer, are not feeling your best, are ill or sick, or are low energy, it is in the best interests of both you and your client to postpone the Reiki treatment until you are feeling 100% vital again. Otherwise they will not receive the highest quality Reiki healing you can give, and you will feel even more drained at the end.
Just for today, work honestly
Reiki healing is a big responsibility. There are ‘practitioners’ who don’t take Reiki seriously, or try and pretend they are healers for monetary gain or other inauthentic reasons. Reiki is a heart centered practice. One of the Reiki Principles ‘just for today, work honestly’ requires Reiki practitioners to be honest, and practice with the highest integrity and respect. In doing so, your clients will also respect you, and share their experiences with you in a more positive way.
