Reiki teaches us to surrender

Reiki teaches us to surrender

When practicing Reiki, no matter how much we want Reiki to flow faster, harder, and more powerfully, we must do the opposite. Reiki teaches us to surrender to its divine flow. The beauty of Reiki is truly in its simplicity. Close your eyes. Relax your mind and body. Set your intention, then step back outside of yourself and allow the flow of Reiki to move through you.

The 5 pillars of Reiki

This is similar to meditation, which is why meditation is one of the 5 pillars of Reiki. When meditating, it is common to have lots of thoughts. While that is perfectly ok and to be expected, the idea is that with time, you will discover more space between those thoughts. It’s easy to get caught up on the thought-train, and choo choo your way out of the present moment. However, if you can catch yourself in the midst of a thought, just that very moment of awareness has the power to change everything.

Become the observer of your thoughts

When catching yourself in the thought, we suddenly realise that we are not the thought anymore. We are the observer, the higher self that is witnessing the thought as it floats through our mind. The same skill is required in Reiki too. It might take some practice, which is why meditating is a wonderful tool to practice to improve your Reiki healing.

The Reiki void

When we can step back outside of ourselves when giving a Reiki healing, we suddenly open up to the ‘Reiki void’. This is a high frequency, where we can start to tune into our intuition, and amplify our psychic abilities. Of course the more you practice, the easier and more confident you will feel. When you are first starting out, it can be a bit confusing, and that’s normal. Like any skill, it takes time to develop. In that sense, Reiki also teaches us patience.

Reiki is relaxing!

Once we have mastered the art of stepping back outside of ourselves, and simply allowing Reiki energy to flow through us, it becomes much more relaxing. We don’t have to try so hard. We’re not forcing Reiki to flow, we’re not concentrating and expending our energy unnecessarily. We are simply observing the flow of energy, and anything that might come up in our awareness.

Discernment between energies

The challenging part is then discerning between what belongs to you, and what belongs to the client. In addition, when you practice Reiki enough, you’re intuition and psychic abilities will likely get stronger and more powerful. This will enable you to pick up on all sorts of things from people, not just yourself and your client. Even whilst in the midst of a Reiki healing, I will often pick up on information or thoughts from other people not in the room. This is where discernment is key. Also, setting your intention at the start of the Reiki healing will also help you stay focused on the client.

Intuition and psychic abilities

It’s the same when practicing self-Reiki. Your intuition and psychic abilities will likely grow stronger, and you will slowly learn to tune into yourself on a deeper level. You’ll become aware if you are carrying energy from other people that is not yours. You might even become aware of entities, cords, attachments, psychic attacks and other spiritual influences that might be affecting you. When you practice self-Reiki, you can then clear these energetic influences that are potentially draining your energy, and raise your vibration back up again. This is the most empowering thing to help yourself be in the best energetic frequency you can be.

Let go and let God

Letting go and surrendering is the ultimate key. You cannot force Reiki to flow. However, you can trust that Reiki IS flowing, even if you don’t feel anything just yet. Sometimes someone’s energy field might be blocked, stagnant, or have other things that are influencing your ability to connect. I often find if a client is on medication, I cannot connect and it feels foggy and fluffy, especially around the head and third eye. That’s perfectly ok, I just trust that Reiki is working, and it always does. Setting your intention and having faith are the most important things in Reiki.
