Slow down and enjoy the journey
In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to rush from one milestone to the next—whether in school, work, or even spirituality! But the truth is, growth doesn’t happen in the sprint; it happens in the pauses where we truly integrate what we’ve learned. This is a lesson I’ve had to learn repeatedly, both in life and in my spiritual practice. And if you’re on a journey of awakening, I want to share why slowing down is the key to lasting transformation, and to true embodiment and spiritual growth.
Casey, slow down!
As a child, I had a habit of rushing through things. My mum used to say, “Casey, slow down and read the question!” More often than not, I’d miss important details, leading to mistakes that could have been avoided. Now, years later, I’ve learned that this lesson applies far beyond exams. It’s a cornerstone of spiritual growth. When we rush through our spiritual practice, we risk missing the deeper wisdom waiting to unfold.
Endless curiosity
It can be so easy to get swept up in spiritual courses and different modalities. I know how it feels to have endless curiosity, seeking truth and healing, and diving into the mysteries of the Universe. However, take your time! Anytime you level up or try something new, there are new frequencies to integrate. We need time and lived experience to turn knowledge into wisdom.
Child vs Adult mentality
When you first start out on your spiritual path, you might be like a child in a candy store! This candy store is full of colours and flavours and exciting new treats. Like a child, you just want to taste them all! But like any parent will know, if a child eats all the candy at once, they will crash and burn, and will likely feel very sick! They will cry, won’t sleep, and their brain will be overstimulated leading to hyperactivity and cognitive dysfunction.
Mature approach to spirituality
However, if you can take a more mature and slow & steady approach to spirituality, your journey will be more stable, enjoyable, and long-lasting. Take your time to really learn all the skills at Reiki Level 1 before moving on to Reiki Level 2. Practice becoming disciplined at meditation, self-Reiki and journaling.
One level at a time
Examine your inner thoughts and feelings, and deal with what comes up with patience and compassion. Take one sweet treat at a time, really savour the taste, and learn all about the ingredients that go into it. When you are ready, then take the next treat. By then, you’ll have mastered the art of eating nourishing food and balancing sweet treats in moderation. You’ll be looking after your physical body with exercise, fresh air, and know how your body responds to sweet treats, as every candy will have a different effect on your mind, physiology, and energy levels.
Why are you rushing?
If you are always in a rush and wanting to do more, ask yourself, why? What is the rush? What are you looking for, exactly? Most of the time the answers are not found outside of you, or with teachers and spiritual gurus, but rather they are found within. Spiritual wisdom is gained by putting knowledge into practice and integrating them into your daily life.
