The Realities Of Being A Reiki Healer

The realities of being a Reiki healer

Becoming a professional Reiki healer and helping people in their time of need seems like a worthy and wonderful profession. And it is! However, it’s definitely not all light and rainbows. Here are some insights into what it’s like to be a professional Reiki healer.

Have a daily self-Reiki practice

Self-Reiki increases your intuition, expands your self-awareness, and reduces stress and anxiety. To be a professional Reiki healer, the first and most important thing is having a daily self-Reiki practice. If not daily, then at the very minimum, practicing self-Reiki on the days you are seeing clients. In order to show up in the best possible way for clients, ensure your own personal energy channel is clean and clear. This means clearing other people’s energy out of your own energy field and grounding yourself in preparation.

Clearing your professional space

When clients come in for Reiki, you will be clearing their energy fields of negative energy, emotions, traumas, and more. Once the client leaves, to avoid that energy lingering in your space, it is vital you clear the room. You might give your room a full Reiki cleanse at the end of the week, a daily cleanse at the end of the day, or a quick clear using Reiki symbols in between each client. For me personally, I do all the above! My intention is to hold a beautiful calming safe space for clients. If there is negative energy, entities, spirits, leftover emotions and whatnot in the space, this is going to negatively influence my next client (and myself too!).

Holding space for your clients

Clients will often come to you with their problems, emotions, triggers, traumas and more. If you don’t have the skills to deal with these things as they come up, I would highly encourage you to seek out more training. Otherwise, be very specific on your Reiki offering, and be clear that counselling or coaching is not part of what you do. Boundaries are extremely important to protect yourself, your business, and your energy in your professional practice.

Self care is a priority

If you are a professional Reiki healer, I would encourage you to receive Reiki regularly from another professional. Just like psychologists are required to have their own therapy sessions, Reiki healers also need someone to support them too. Self-Reiki is an incredible tool, however you can drop in deeper when someone else holds space for you. If you are not willing to pay to receive Reiki from another healer, question yourself, why are you hesitating? Is it too expensive, you don’t have time, you don’t trust anyone else? Work through any limiting beliefs as they will affect your own professional practice too.

Spiritual challenges as a healer

As a professional Reiki healer, I have come across many energetic and spiritual challenges! The unseen spirit world can be scary if you don’t know what you’re doing. In addition, the more open energetically and spiritually you are, the more challenges you will encounter. So even though it’s an incredible thing to be psychic and intuitive, be prepared for the dark side too. Spiritual influences, negative entities, spiritual entanglements, psychic attacks, and more are all very real things that you will have to deal with, not just for yourself, but for your clients too.

Running a business

Reiki healing is not just the ‘woo-woo’ stuff, it also requires you to wear many professional hats. Marketing, sales, budgeting, dealing with difficult clients, setting boundaries, asking for payment, and managing your website are all part and parcel of being a professional healer. Of course you can hire people to help you with all these things. However, if you are the CEO of your business, you need to be across these areas too.

Putting yourself ‘out there’

No fluff here…if you want to be a professional Reiki healer, but are too afraid to put yourself out there, then you have a big hurdle to overcome. I know and understand the ‘witch wound’ well. In the past we have been burned at the stake, drowned, and tortured for being who we are – healers. However, if you don’t speak up and stand in your power, you will never attract clients, and never get your professional business off the ground.

The best thing I ever did!

Being a Reiki healer is challenging and exhausting at times. But it’s also the most incredible, soul-fulfilling work I have ever done. I’m living my life on purpose, fulfilling the mission I came here to do, and it excites me every day. I love what I do, and honestly, that love and knowing I’m on purpose, is the thing that gets me through the hard times. Helping, supporting and healing people is what gets me up in the morning, puts a smile on my face, and lights me up. If Reiki does this for you too, you can be sure you have found your ‘thing’!
