Highest Will and Good
‘Highest will and good’ is a statement or declaration that Reiki healers use when setting an intention to practice Reiki. It doesn’t matter if you are practicing self-Reiki, or treating someone else with Reiki. You might even be sending Reiki to a pet or an inanimate object (like your plants, crystals, or medication)! It doesn’t matter what you are Reiki-ing, it is always a good idea to use ‘highest will and good’.
Reiki is a heart-centred practice
At the beginning of every Reiki treatment, I always set an intention and express gratitude for Reiki. As I do this, I focus on my heart space, and expand the feeling of gratitude from my heart’s centre. Reiki healing is a heart-centred practice. In addition, one of the Reiki Principles is ‘just for today, be grateful’. By reminding ourselves that Reiki energy is unconditional love, it can help us step back out of our mind and ego, and allow this divine energy to simply flow through us.
Reiki intention
My intention at the start of every Reiki healing is this: ‘Thank you Reiki for being here, thank you to my client and myself for being here. This is a beautiful Reiki healing for my client’s highest will and good!’ Those last four words ‘highest will and good’ are especially important. Sometimes the client will have certain expectations or hopes and desires for healing. However, Reiki will always work holistically and treat the entire body-mind-spirit all together. We cannot spot target healing in Reiki, just like it’s impossible to spot target with weight loss! Reiki energy will always flow to where it is needed most, regardless of what we want or need.
Tune into intuition
‘Highest will and good’ sets your intention for Reiki to flow in the direction of your client’s highest Self. When we are aligned with our highest self, magic can happen! Not only do we raise our energetic vibration, we also quieten our ego mind, and allow our intuition to activate and open. When we’re in a flow state, aligned with our highest self, we are able to see things more clearly. We can tune into what our intuition is telling us, and we can make decisions with more ease. We can manage pain, sleep more soundly, and listen to our bodies.
Surrender to Reiki and the Divine
We can never force Reiki to flow, nor can we force Reiki to heal a particular thing or body part. Sometimes we might really want Reiki to help with a particular situation! However, tensing our body and trying to control the flow of Reiki never works. Instead, we must do the opposite. Let go, surrender to the Divine, and have trust and faith in the power of Reiki. As a Reiki Master and practitioner, I have learnt that Reiki flows stronger and with more ease the more I can step back and just allow it to flow naturally. The hardest thing is to do nothing! Just simply be the channel for Reiki energy to flow through.
You are the healer
Sometimes a client will thank me for their Reiki session, or give compliments to me as a Reiki healer for the magic or shifts they experience in their lives. Although this might be validating to hear (for my ego), ultimately I know it’s nothing to do with me. All I did was hold space for the client, and allow the highest form of Reiki energy to flow. Reiki healing helps activate the client’s innate healing capacity. The client is actually healing themselves! When we are more aligned with our highest self, and when our energy centres are open, that’s when our body can work its magic.
